Little painted faces, pointy witch hats, two feet tall clowns, skeleton costumes - it's that time of year again - Halloween is here.

Tell the truth, when you rummage through the basket of your kids trick or treat candy are you checking to make sure it's safe or are you looking for your personal favorite candy bar to munch on?

Sometimes I think there is still a little bit of the child left in each of us. Who can forget the anticipation we all felt as Halloween approached. Don't you remember going out in the dark dressed up in weird costumes with your friends, and depending on your age maybe one parent lingering in the background? Don't you remember the tinge of fear mixed with a tingle of excitement?

Trick or Treat, Trick or Treat, I can still remember the well-intentioned taunt make to smiling parents of your friends and your neighbors. Then there were the nasty older kids who were only out to spoil everyone's fun and throw raw eggs that splattered on doorways and sidewalks. I wonder if they grew up to be bullies or patrons of some other form of anti social behavior.

Today there are also unfortunately the Kooks. The weirdo's who place razor blades in candy, who sneak up behind people and punch them and run off with their cherished possessions and rob them of their self-respect. I guess they are a product of the true state of terror we live in. No one is safe any more, not old people or little children, not the infirm or feeble, not the weakest amongst us, and especially unfortunately not on Halloween. And the worst is that there are terrorists lurking out there in every nook and cranny of our economic and social system waiting to take advantage of this era of our discontent.

The term Halloween (and its alternative rendering Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day", which is now also known as All Saints' Day. It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions, until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints' Day from May 13 (which had itself been the date of a pagan holiday, the Feast of the Lemures) to November1. In the ninth century, the Church measured the day as starting at sunset, in accordance with the Florentine calendar. Although All Saints' Day is now considered to occur one day after Halloween, the two holidays were, at that time, celebrated on the same day.
- Wikipedia

Today carved pumpkins called Jack-o'-lanterns are used to scare off evil spirits and for decorative purposes and the holiday has become popular as a children's event.

Isn't it time we all returned to some basic values and helped our children celebrate a holiday of treats and traditions? Isn't it time we tried to take the fear out of every day living for ourselves and for our kids? Isn't it time we looked inward to our personal clown and started to have some fun again? Why can't we just enjoy the moment?

Let's cherish our traditions. Let's spend some time with our kids. Let's bob for apples not problems. Let's have fun again. Let's give ourselves a treat and not trick ourselves into forgetting who we really are and what we stand for. Don't let a bunch of kooks and terror-nooks spook you. The guys behind the masks are the ones who are really scared.

Happy Halloween.

Leg Avenue 3 Piece Diner Betty Costume

Printable Halloween mask are great ways to trick-or-treat without the cost of high quality mask products available on the market. Children love to dress up as their scariest nightmares or their favorite heroes. What better way to have fun with the holiday, than by creating your own costume that has been customized buy them personally. Creating these printable Halloween masks can be a very fun project that you and your child can enjoy together. It is easy to do and will be a great addition to your child's Halloween costume.

In making these printable Halloween masks all you need is a computer and a printer. You can search the Internet for images of your child's favorite hero or heroine or even the scariest thing imaginable. Once you have found the desired image, you can right click on the image and choose to save to a destination on your computer.

Once you have saved the image you can then send it to your printer and change the size to fit the printer paper. Once you have printed the image onto the paper, you can then cut out the printable Halloween masks shape. Once you have completed these tasks, you can punch a hole on either side of the mask. Then you want to tie a string or piece of elastic band to the holes so that your child can place the mask over their face.

If your child wishes, instead of tying a piece of string to the mask, you can glue or tape a piece of wood dowel or even a pop cycle stick to the bottom of the mask. This will allow them to hold the mask up in front of their face when it is needed. A laser or ink jet printer would be the proper type of printer to use for this project.

These printable Halloween masks can allow our child to have a great time trick-or-treating with out spending a lot of money on expensive Halloween costumes. Having such a project that you and your child can do together is a great way for the two of you to spend building on the relationship that is between a parent and their children.

In making these kind of mask, it allows your child to be the designer of their own costume. This can be a great way for your child to learn some independence. So for fun that you can enjoy with your children, try this idea this holiday season.

Rock Star Wigs Halloween Wigs

Rock Star Wigs Halloween Wigs unsized for kids and adults

The term foam dance party is really confusing to a lot of people. What is it? Why would someone want to do play in foam? Where can you find one?

A foam dance party can be simple with foam pouring out of a machine into your back yard. You can also contain the foam in an inflatable pit or you can get really elaborate and add black lights disco balls and loud music. And if you wonder why everyone likes them? Just remember how fun it was to play in a bubble bath when you were a child. And then multiply that feeling again and again. Not only is it fun to be in the foambut watching the bubbles float up through the sky is an entertaining experience.

In the past you could find foam dance parties at colleges but they are becoming more and more popular each year for the average backyard party. Of course there are always a lot of questions when the subject of the foam party comes up. Ill try to answer some of them here:

  • The foam is a specialty foam although you can actually use baby shampoo if you dont have foam available.
  • Foam Machines and Pits can be found at Specialty Party Rental Companies
  • If youre more of a DIY type person.you can find instructions for building your own foam machine on the internet. They are fairly simple to make.
  • Nopeyoure not supposed to be naked. Clothing is good!
  • Foam parties can work for all ages. You can adjust the amount of foam thats filling the area to meet the needs of your guests.
Generally youll want to have your event outside and for safetys sake youll need an area that isnt slippery when its wet. Some inflatable foam pits have vinyl bottoms but most are just inflatable retaining walls.

If you rent equipment the cost for the parties generally runs from $300-$2000.00 depending on the amount of foam needed and the length of time for your event. This year youll probably see foam parties at Company Picnics, Birthday Parties, College Events, Fundraising parties and festivals.

And Yes.if youre looking for some Good Clean Fun, a foam party is just what you need!

Rock Star Wigs Halloween Wigs

Rock Star Wigs Halloween Wigs unsized for kids and adults

Did you ever watch a cockroach race? It's amazing how after you open up the gates those little things start running all over the place as if their heads were on fire and they were looking for a fountain of water to dive into, not realizing that they'd be jumping to their deaths. Well, that's kind of what it's like to do Christmas shopping. Let's face it, we all wait until the last minute. It's December 24 and suddenly we realize that we have 100 gifts to get and 1 hour to get them. What on Earth do we do?

Christmas shopping madness. And make no mistake about it, madness is exactly what it is. The lines at the malls at the checkout counters go around in circles multiple times. The parking lots are so stuffed that you need to put your car in another time zone. You'll get more exercise walking to the store than you got all year doing your food shopping. The rudeness borders on the criminal. And if all that isn't bad enough, you've got cosmetic girls stationed five feet apart, all trying to sell you the latest perfume, whether you're male or female, old or not even old enough to shave. Doesn't matter. There's money to be made.

But believe it or not, there is a way to avoid all this. Christmas shopping doesn't have to be an adventure in jungle warfare. You don't need to take your life in your hands on the roads or in the stores. There is a better way. Okay, so just what is it? When is the best time to do your Christmas shopping? Are there alternatives to trekking out to the malls?

The best time to do your Christmas shopping is right after Thanksgiving, but not the very next day. Most stores will have their first Christmas sales right after Thanksgiving and the sales usually last for the whole weekend; Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The day right after Thanksgiving is as bad as Christmas Eve. Everybody is running out to get those great deals. But by Saturday, or even Sunday, the rush has died down considerably and you can get the same deals without too much hassle. This way you save money and at the same time beat the crowds.

If saving money isn't a priority and you really want to have empty stores to go to, your best shopping times are between December 1 and December 15. You're sure to find that you're about the only one in the store at this time. The roads are pretty clear too.

What if you don't want to go out shopping at all? No problem. Today, with the Internet being what it is, you can do your Christmas shopping online. Many companies even have special delivery terms where they promise that you'll have your order before Christmas. Some even offer next day shipping for a very reasonable fee.

Shopping at Christmas time doesn't have to be a royal pain in the neck. With a little planning and a lot of alternatives, Christmas shopping can actually be an enjoyable experience.

That's until you get the credit card bill in the mail.

Candy Man Adult Halloween Costume Size 42 Medium

Candy Man Adult Halloween Costume Size 42 Medium includes: Hat, jacket, pants and vest with attached tie.

It's no secret that throwing a birthday party is an expensive endeavor. You've got the food, entertainment, decorations, and possibly even a party hall!

The cost of your invitations can be staggering. It seems like every other week the price of postage goes up! If your guest list is sizable you can easily pay over a hundred dollars in postage alone! Then you've got the cost of the actual invitations themselves to think about.

Fortunately there are ways to announce your birthday kid's party without spending buckets of money. Here's a few ideas to get you started!

Send an E-Card
An e-card is an electronic greeting that is usually animated and has some music or sound effects added. You can customize them with your own message. There are many companies online that provide this service, but the most notable is Blue Mountain Arts. E-card's are a great way to announce your kids birthday party at little or no cost.

Use Social Networking Sites like MySpace and Facebook
Most social networking sites have features that allow you to announce parties and events. You can use this to announce your child's birthday party without spending a penny! Best of all, you can use these site to easily follow up with everyone closer to the party date!

Make Your Own Invitations Instead of Purchasing Them
If you do opt to send out paper invitations, consider making them yourself instead of purchasing them from the party store. Not only will you spend less money, but the invitations will have a sense of authenticity about them that you can't buy at any price!

Hand Deliver Every Invitation You Can
Many of these invitations are probably going out to family members or other folks you encounter frequently. If you can save on postage by hand delivering the invitation yourself, do it! Keep these invitations in your car at all times so you always have them ready at a moments notice!

If All Else Fails, Send an Email or Text message Blast
This is the least personable of your options, but it is cheap. If you need to invite a lot of people to the party inexpensively and you don't have a lot of time, this is a viable option. Just make sure you follow up to make sure a spam filter didn't block your invitation.

Remember, your ultimate goal is to make the birthday party a positive experience for your child. Use your budget for things like decorations, food, and entertainment. The invitations don't directly affect your child's enjoyment of the party, so save as much money on them as you can.

Child's Robot Halloween Costume (Size: Small 4-6)

Halloween is coming! Have you picked out your costume? And more importantly have you picked out Halloween costumes for your kids? Time is running out!

I remember when I was a kid -- and yes it was a long time ago -- we frequently made costumes, but there were store-bought costumes available even then. The big difference that I've noted is that the quality and variety of costumes has expanded significantly. This coincides with the increase in the amount of buzz that Halloween gets these days.

Some people object to Halloween mostly on religious grounds. They feel it promotes a belief in satanic figures and such. As for me, I tend to think of it as a time when kids and adults can dress up in silly costumes -- and sometimes scary costumes -- and get free candy. You know, sort of a dentists dream!

Costumes popular with kids frequently center around movies and TV shows. This year will probably be no different. WIth summer blockbuster release of movies like Batman: The Dark Knight, Ironman, Speed Racer, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Hulk, Wall-E, Hellboy, The Mummy, and Star Wars: Clone Wars, you can be sure all those characters will be on the radar for kids' costumes. But don't forget perennial favorites like Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Robin, Spider Man, and all the Disney princesses such as Ariel The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White, Belle.

Cartoon and book characters such as Sponge Bob Squarepants, Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger are favorites of the younger set.

Classic costumes such as Robin Hood, firemen, policemen, and others may appeal to certain youngsters.

For adults, the themes are many and some are naughty. And, of course, since it's the political season I'm sure John McCain and Barack Obama will be frequent visitors to Halloween parties. Old-timers may still come as Richard Nixon or Lyndon Johnson - they'll just have to explain who they are to the generation x-ers.

Whatever your fancy you can probably find a costume these days.

But, a word of warning -- or maybe just a friendly reminder -- the earlier you shop the better your selection in variety and sizes!
